Third-Generation Developer is Proud to Brand His Work

Anyone who has shopped or even driven around the Valley - particularly in the East Valley - likely is familiar with the name Michael Pollack.

The founder and president of Mesa-based Michael A. Pollack Real Estate Investments is as famous for his branding as he is for his projects. The company has developed or redeveloped more than 60 shopping centers in Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale Peoria and Tucson.

And while he has taken his share of gentle ribbing and blunt inquiries over the years about why his name figures so prominently on all signage, the reason is simple: "We put our name on it when it's done because we're proud of it," he said.

Pollack began his real estate career in California fresh out of high school in 1973. The choice seemed natural, considering he'd been visiting construction sites since before he was able to walk. His father and grandfather also ran real estate companies in the Bay Area.

Pollack said his early days in the business were fueled by the thrill of chasing and securing the hottest deals. These days, however, he said he is more intoxicated by the rush of pride he feels at the completion of each project. That's once lesson he's teaching his son Daniel, who now oversees the company's management division, representing the fourth generation to be involved in real estate.

"We want to not only be proud, but also make sure the city and people who live in the community are proud, too," Pollack said.
